The Schnauzer is the forerunner of the three Schnauzer breeds. In its blood may run some Poodle, some Spitz and some Pinscher blood. It has been used in the past as a vermin killer, a yard dog and a very effective guard dog. They have also been used for Army and Police purposes. Adaptable, trainable and intelligent.
